Change is finally coming to America! Barack Obama is the new elected President and a new wind is blowing on the USA.
Most of us would like to experience that atmosphere, be part of the change and see Obama moving the first steps towards the New World.
Change is coming to America – and so is PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen. He’s in Washington and New York this week, discussing the financial crisis with Democrat politicians, progressive economists and trade unionists including Howard Dean, John Podesta, Barney Frank, Paul Volcker, Joseph Stiglitz, and Dominique Strauss Kahn at the IMF.
This week, Yourspace has a very special correspondent from the States. Let’s see Obama’s America through Poul Nyrup Rasmussen’s posts!
We already have his first story!
Obama + 5- the sun is shining in Washington, Sunday 9th
“So, what’s your plan for this visit to Washington” a smiling customer office asked me “to visit some democrat friends?” After I answered yes, he added “well, if you got time see if you can visit the republicans, they are much fewer now in congress and they feel a bit lonesome.” We had a good laugh before he wished me a good stay.
This is the new USA. Arriving at Obama plus 5, five days after the election, the new president is still something very special. The enthusiasm, the hope, the joy, the belief that we can change is so strong among all, from the taxi driver in mainstreet to the most cool analytical brains at executive levels. We are all on the same team among progressives- let’s do the progressive way together- the PES and the US Democrats.
That’s our work “toward the hope of a better day”. And we certainly need better days- in US, in Europe, all over the world.
In a few hours I am going to meet important decision makers among our democrat friends, economic advisers to the elected president, American trade union leaders, best qualified in creating jobs, investments, getting the way out of the financial and economic crisis.
We must act in common on both sides of the atlantic and we need all progressives to work together.
That is why I am here- to talk about our progressive way, to listen to our democratic friends, to Obama and his team and to connect- to promote a new progressive cooperation.
Can we do it? Yes we can !
